What Does It Actually Mean to Dream Big?
What does it mean to dream big?
For some, it might mean opening a private practice, becoming a thought leader, or climbing the
ladder to a leadership role. For others, it could be having a flexible schedule, being home for
bedtime, or preparing for a peaceful retirement.
The truth is, dreaming big doesn’t have just one definition.
At dB Coaching Group, we talk a lot about growth and dreaming big is a huge part of that. But
sometimes we forget that big dreams can evolve. They should evolve. Because life is always
changing. Our responsibilities shift, our priorities adjust, and we change right along with them.
Early Career: Climbing, Achieving, Building
In the early stages of your career, dreaming big often looks like striving. You’re building
something, whether that’s a résumé, a reputation, or your own confidence. The dream might be
to land that ideal job, be seen as a rising star, or finally get the promotion you’ve worked so hard
for.
There’s often a fire that fuels early career dreams, and it’s exciting. But it can also be
overwhelming. The key is to stay rooted in what matters most to you—not what everyone else
defines as success.
Mid-Career: Balancing, Questioning, Reimagining
Mid-career is often when things get complicated. Maybe you’ve checked a few boxes already
and now you’re trying to figure out what’s next. You might be raising kids, caring for aging
parents, or simply realizing that your priorities have shifted. That doesn’t mean you’ve stopped
dreaming big. It just means your dreams have grown up, too.
Maybe your version of “big” is stability. Maybe it’s working smarter instead of harder. Or maybe
it’s having enough boundaries in place to enjoy your weekends again.
Late Career: Reflecting, Planning, Leaving a Legacy
As retirement approaches, dreaming big often turns into dreaming forward. What legacy do you
want to leave behind? How do you want to use your time, talent, and wisdom in the next
chapter?
This is a time of reflection, yes, but it’s also a time of bold vision. It’s the season where dreaming
big can mean mentoring others, giving back, or finally pursuing something that’s been on the
back burner for years.
In the Hard Seasons…
Let’s not forget—we all go through hard times. Burnout. Loss. Illness. Major life transitions. In
these seasons, dreaming big might look very different. Some days, it’s just getting up, taking a
shower, and doing the best you can.
That counts.
Your dream doesn’t have to be shiny or social-media worthy to be big for where you are right
now. The fact that you’re still showing up, still caring, still hoping for something better—that’s a
dream worth holding.
So wherever you are in your journey…whether you’re chasing a title, redefining balance, or
choosing rest over hustle remember this:
You are still dreaming big.
And we’re here to support you every step of the way.
