Mid-Year Check-In: Sharpen Your Goals This Summer
I wish I could redo the years when we had summers off and summer meant sleeping in, going to the town pool, eating popsicles, and reading lazily for fun. Why don’t we get that as adults?! Healthcare never sleeps. If we’re committed to adulting (I’m willing to hear arguments against adulting!!), summer is a perfect time to pause, reflect, and sharpen our goals. The first half of the year might have flown by, but there’s still plenty of time to make significant strides and crush our objectives.
If you’re reading this, I bet you’re already a driven person who has figured out how to be successful in multiple areas of your life. This information isn’t new. You won’t finish this and say, “wow, that was revolutionary!” What this newsletter is meant to do is just remind you of all the knowledge you have and give you a nudge to use the skills you have and make sure you keep rocking it this year.
But why???
Reevaluating your goals mid-year is crucial. It’s a chance to fine-tune your strategies, double down on what’s working, and pivot where necessary. Life evolves, and so should our goals. Staying flexible and adjusting your path is key to sustained success.
Here come those reminders…
1. Reflect on Your Progress: Take a hard look at the goals you set at the beginning of the year. Celebrate your wins and recognize the progress you’ve made. Kudos to you! Reflecting on achievements, even small ones, fuels motivation.
2. Assess What’s Working: Identify the goals that are on track and analyze what’s contributing to your success. Is it a specific habit, a routine, or support from a particular person? Understanding what works can help you apply those strategies to other areas.
3. Tackle Challenges Head-On: Be brutally honest about what’s not working. Are there goals that have stalled? What obstacles have you faced? Are the blocks that are preventing you from the success you want external or internal? Pinpointing the challenges enables you to devise concrete solutions and adjust your strategy effectively.
4. Revise and Refocus: Based on your reflection, refine your goals. Some may need minor tweaks, others a complete overhaul. This isn’t about giving up; it’s about recalibrating to ensure your goals remain relevant and achievable.
5. Set Tactical Milestones: Break down your revised goals into actionable milestones. This approach prevents overwhelm and provides clear, achievable steps. Each milestone achieved is a concrete victory that propels you closer to your larger objectives.
6. Harness Summer’s Energy: How can you use the wonder of summer to recreate moments of bliss like in childhood? Leverage this. Whether it’s a morning run, an outdoor project, or simply soaking up the sun, find what rejuvenates you and keeps you moving forward.
7. Reconnect with Your Motivation: Revisit the reasons behind your goals. A strong emotional connection to your objectives makes it easier to stay committed, especially when the going gets tough.
