Finding Clarity When Everything Feels Like an Option

September 01, 20253 min read

Have you ever felt like there are too many choices in front of you?

Do you spend your energy asking:

  • Should I focus on growing my business or doubling down on my clinical work?

  • Should I take on this new project or finally carve out time for that big idea?

  • Should I be networking more, or should I be resting more?

The truth is, sometimes it’s not a lack of opportunity that trips us up, it’s having so many options that we don’t know where to start.

I hear this often in coaching conversations: “I don’t know where to put my energy.”

And I get it. When you’re pulled in multiple directions, every path feels both exciting and overwhelming. Without clarity, we can end up dabbling in everything, moving a little on each path but not gaining the momentum we truly want.

Why We Struggle with Choice

Choice is supposed to feel freeing. But research shows that too many options can actually lead to decision paralysis. Instead of making progress, we get stuck in loops of overthinking: What if I pick the wrong thing? What if I miss out?

On top of that, our energy is finite. Every “yes” is also a “no” to something else whether that’s your time, your health, your relationships, or your business growth. Without intentional focus, we can quickly drift into exhaustion or frustration.

A Coaching Reframe: Filter Before You Choose

When you’re standing at a crossroads with too many options, here are a few coaching prompts you can use to filter where your energy goes:

  1. What’s aligned with my bigger vision?
If this choice doesn’t move me closer to the career, team, or life I want to build, it may be a distraction.

  2. What energizes me most right now?
Pay attention to what feels light vs. what feels heavy. Often our bodies give us more honest answers than our brains.

  3. What has the greatest ripple effect?
Sometimes the most powerful choice is the one that creates momentum in other areas. (For example, investing in leadership skills might unlock growth for your whole team.)

Start with One Thing

Here’s the secret: you don’t have to do everything at once. In fact, you can’t. The most successful leaders aren’t the ones doing it all, they’re the ones who know what matters most right now and put their energy there.

So, if you’re feeling pulled in ten directions today, give yourself permission to choose one. Move on it, even imperfectly. Let that momentum build.

Final Thought

At dB Coaching Group, we believe clarity isn’t about having all the answers, it’s about learning how to filter your choices, honor your energy, and move forward with intention.

If you’re staring down too many options and not sure which path to take, that’s a signal, not a failure. It’s your invitation to pause, reflect, and choose what will truly fuel your growth.

Because your energy is one of the most valuable resources you have, make sure you’re putting it where it matters most.

If you’re reading this thinking, “This is me…”
